Courseline® is a customizable mix of online training products from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI); the same high quality educational materials that hospitality schools have celebrated worldwide. CourseLine® offers convenience, affordability, and your choice of courses available in seven areas of specialization. Course material is organized into a set of core competencies for each topic area developed by subject matter experts. A combination of key terms, web links, case studies, exhibits, interactive activities, and quizzes help reinforce the material covered in each competency.

CyberCinema® provides access to AHLEI’s video library covering various hospitality areas. AHLEI videos provide information for new hospitality industry employees as well as those who want to increase their skills or learn more about another area of hospitality. Once registered, users have access to CyberCinema® 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Videos can be accessed at a time and place that’s convenient and can be stopped and restarted as needed.

Distance Learning The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) offers more than 20 hospitality management courses, available online through our CourseLine® learning management system. Take individual courses or work toward earning Areas of Specialization certificates, a Hospitality Fundamentals certificate, a Hospitality Operations certificate, or a Hospitality Management Diploma.

Guest Service Gold® ANNOUNCING our newest training program: Guest Service Gold®: Tourism! New in December 2017, this program applies seven guest service “golden opportunities” to the broad spectrum of tourism. Video scenarios feature real employees at a variety of tourism venues including restaurants, welcome centers, wineries and ski lodges, transportation, and airports to show employees how delivering exceptional guest service makes a real difference for your guests and for your business. Offered onlineor in print, the training prepares employees for professional certification as a Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP). Also available in Spanish.

High School Program (HTMP) The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute’s (AHLEI) high school curriculum, the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP), was developed by industry experts and members of the American Hotel & Lodging Association as the official industry-recognized curriculum to prepare students for roles in the hotel industry and beyond. AHLEI’s high school curriculum introduces the hospitality and tourism industry on a global scale with a large focus on diversity.

Hotel Industry Foundations and Introduction to Analytics Hotel Industry Foundations and Introduction to Analytics (HIFIA) is jointly offered by STR and the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI). Please note: HIFIA is not a professional certification, but an instructional module with content pulled from the full Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) study resources.

Hotel Safety Eye on Liability is a short and informative course that explains how to protect you and your property. After completing it, you will have a better understanding of your role in protecting your guests, employees, and properties while ensuring everyone’s safety. You will also find additional sources of information and training from AHLEI referenced throughout the course.

Your Role in Preventing Human Trafficking: Recognize the Signs Traffickers use hotel and motel rooms when setting up encounters between victims of sex trafficking and those individuals purchasing sex. Traffickers are capitalizing on the lack of awareness around this issue within the hotel industry. All too often, they continue to exploit their victims unchecked because staff, managers, and executives do not know what to look for.
Objectives of the program:

  • Define human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of children
  • Identify individuals who are most at risk for human trafficking
  • Understand the difference between labor and sex trafficking specific to the hotel sector
  • Explain the role of hospitality employees in responding to this issue

Postsecondary Schools The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) is dedicated to providing academic institutions with the resources they need to prepare graduates for 21st century hospitality careers. Postsecondary schools use AHLEI textbooks in their hospitality management classes and enhance their course offerings with AHLEI’s hospitality training resources created for industry professionals, giving students a professional edge as they begin their careers.

CARE Alcohol Awareness The Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively® (CARE) for Servers program includes updates to learning activities and discussions on how to effectively monitor and control guests’ alcohol consumption, tactfully intervene before problems arise, carry out ID-checking policies, and handle minors according to your venue’s policies.

Sexual Violence Prevention for Hotel Staff The 30-minute online training program addresses the issue of sexual violence in the hospitality industry and offers tips to combat this issue. Case study scenarios reinforce concepts and allow users to test their knowledge, and downloadable resources ensure the training remains relevant on the job.

SLATE HOTEL The SLATE (Strategic Learning and Training Experience) Hotel is a 3-D immersive virtual simulation. It is played from the viewpoint of a hotel general manager where learners are challenged to solve problems related to guest satisfaction, safety, security, and business operations. Throughout the levels, learners will be using general hotel knowledge, listening, and critical thinking skills. The learner receives feedback during each level of the simulation, with an overall scorecard at the completion of the simulation.

AHLEI’s premier workforce training curriculum is called START (Skills, Tasks, And Results Training). This 180-hour curriculum covers 12 hospitality positions with the opportunity to earn at least one professional certification.
