Phone2Action Alert: Labor & Industries Proposes Salary Threshold of up to $75,000! https://wahospitality.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/shutterstock_1101247694.jpg

Over the last six months, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has worked with stakeholders to update the “white collar” exemptions under the Minimum Wage Act for Executive, Administrative and Professional staff, including updating the salary threshold. These updates are long overdue; however, now we need you to comment on the proposed rules.

What’s at stake: The current set of draft rules proposes to tie the salary threshold to a range of 1.5-3 times the state minimum wage, which is $37,000 – $75,000 annually. Tying the salary threshold to the minimum wage of any multiplier is problematic and would be harmful to the hospitality industry.

How can you help: L&I is collecting comments on the pre-draft rules and needs to hear from you! The last day to submit comments is Friday, Oct. 26. As a reminder your comments will become part of the public record

Additionally, L&I is holding listening sessions across the state to hear public comment. If you would like to attend a listening session and provide public comment, please contact Katie Doyle. The proposed rules from L&I may be found here.
