Over the last six months, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has worked with stakeholders to update the “white collar” exemptions under the Minimum Wage Act for Executive, Administrative and Professional staff, including updating the salary threshold. These updates are long overdue; however, now we need you to comment on the proposed rules.

What’s at stake: The current set of draft rules proposes to tie the salary threshold to a range of 1.5-3 times the state minimum wage, which is $37,000 – $75,000 annually. Tying the salary threshold to the minimum wage of any multiplier is problematic and would be harmful to the hospitality industry.
