It may be the law, but following the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) can also help you attract more repeat customers if they know that you are accommodating their needs. According to ada.gov, by the year 2030, there will be 71.5 million baby boomers older than 65, launching a whole new marketplace for guests with special needs.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Washington, actively investigates businesses for compliance. Make sure you are not only following the letter of the law but are actively accommodating guests who may have specialized needs to help them feel welcome.

The ADA ensures that businesses in public accommodation follow the law. Public accommodations in hospitality include:

  • Retail stores and other sales or retail establishments
  • Hotels, inns and motels
  • Food and drink establishments
  • Auditoriums, theaters and sports arenas
