The ongoing wildfires in the Spokane area are creating uncertainty and hardship for businesses, employees, and communities across the region. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected, including those facing evacuations, property damage, and business disruptions.

Washington Department of Labor & Industries
Employers in Washington state are required to provide paid sick leave to their employees. Employees are entitled to use accrued paid sick leave beginning on the 90th calendar day after the start of their employment.
Employees may use paid sick leave during a federal, state, or local state of emergency declaration.
Gov. Bob Ferguson declared a statewide wildfire emergency on August 1, 2026. Refer to the L&I Paid Sick Leave Law poster for additional information about employer requirements.
