FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Olympia, Wash. — Sept. 2, 2025 — The Washington Hospitality Association is proud to announce the hiring of Andrea Reay as its new Government Affairs Director, bringing with her a legacy of visionary leadership, strategic innovation, and a deep commitment to economic development and advocacy.
“We are beyond thrilled to have someone of Andrea’s talent and experience join our team,” said Anthony Anton, president and CEO of the Washington Hospitality Association. “We have worked alongside her over the past decade and witnessed all that she is capable of firsthand.”
Reay joins the association following a transformative tenure as president & CEO of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber where she led the organization through a period of unprecedented growth, resilience, and impact. Her strategic leadership has been widely recognized for aligning long-term goals with operational excellence, fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation, and empowering teams to deliver on mission-driven outcomes.
Under Reay’s leadership, membership at the chamber grew by over 4%, with more than 200 new active members joining during her tenure. Member engagement surged and programs flourished, reflecting her ability to connect deeply with stakeholders and drive meaningful participation.
Reay also spearheaded a comprehensive rebrand of the chamber, centering its identity around the principle of being “Member Powered.” This initiative led to a 369% increase in digital engagement across web, social media, and email platforms, amplifying the chamber’s visibility and voice in the region.
Reay’s advocacy work has been equally impactful. By forging strategic partnerships, streamlining regulatory pathways, and championing emerging industries, she helped position the South Sound region for long-term economic resilience.
Prior to her tenure in Tacoma, Reay had similar success at the South Seattle Chamber.
Reay’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the association as it continues to strengthen its voice in government affairs and champion policies that support business growth, innovation, and community prosperity.
But it won’t be easy; Reay joins the association at a crucial time for the hospitality industry in Washington state. Skyrocketing costs, including one of the highest state minimum wages, record-setting local minimum wages and nearly $10 billion in new taxes passed by the Legislature have devastated already slim profit margins for many hospitality businesses.
“I’ve been speaking with operators all across the state this summer, and I’m hearing the same sentiment from nearly everyone,” said Anton. “Our policymakers have passed laws that make Washington one of the most anti-business states in the country. Andrea has an extremely difficult challenge ahead of her. She and her team will need to continue efforts in educating policymakers about the challenges of running a small business in Washington and advocate for policies that will provide opportunities for businesses to succeed.”
Reay agreed: “Hospitality businesses are the heart of most thriving communities. And thriving communities require an equitable balance of policies that allow everyone to benefit. Without that balance, there will simply be fewer restaurants and hotels – and fewer jobs in our neighborhoods. I’m excited to bring my energy and commitment to my new role with the hospitality industry to advocate for a thriving business environment.”
Additional quotes from business and industry leaders:
Jacque Farrell, CEO of Farrelli’s Pizza: “I got to work with Andrea in Tacoma on several different issues; she is really impressive. She is hypervigilant and has the ability to see all angles to find the best solution. We are very lucky to have her come aboard and support our industry.”
Kris Johnson, CEO of Association of Washington Business: “This is a great hire by the Hospitality Association. We’ve worked closely with Andrea over the years and know she will excel in this new role. We look forward to continuing the partnership.”
Samantha Le, CEO of the South Seattle Chamber: “Andrea’s commitment to building strong relationships and advocating for economic vitality has left an indelible mark on our region. I am thrilled to see her step into this new role with the Washington Hospitality Association, where I know she will continue to elevate and empower the business community.”
Denny Eliason, Alliances NW: “Andrea is brilliant, thoughtful, and a consummate professional. A great addition to the Washington Hospitality team.”
Julia Gorton, prior director of government affairs for the association and founder of PNW Strategies: “I am thrilled that the association is bringing in Andrea to build on our work to ensure the hospitality industry has one the strongest government affairs programs in Washington. I have worked with her for years and consider her one of the strongest political leaders in the Puget Sound.”
