Comment now to the U.S. Dept. of Labor in support of new tip pooling regulations

The U.S. Department of Labor is currently seeking comments on their proposal to roll back a 2011-rule that bars back of the house employees from participating in tip pools. Back of the house workers like dishwashers and cooks, frequently earn less than their front of the house teammates because of tips. Expanding the tip pool will allow the back of the house to share in the restaurant’s success. The public comment period is open until Feb. 5, so follow this link to tell the U.S. Department of Labor and Secretary Alexander Acosta why you support expanding tip pools so all workers benefit.

Remembrances for Thelma Mosebar, 1947-2017

The Washington Hospitality Association community was saddened to learn that Thelma Mosebar passed away in December after a short struggle with cancer. Thelma was a popular and tireless area coordinator for the Washington Restaurant Association. She worked closely with members in Southwest Washington, Thurston County and on the Olympic Peninsula from 2005 to 2013, and she is remembered for her passion for making sure her members had what they needed to succeed. “Thelma worked around the clock on behalf of her members, whether she was sending out emails in the early hours of the morning or driving down to Vancouver to meet an owner after he closed for the night,” said Anthony Anton. “She was passionate about helping her members overcome problems and reach success, and she continues to be a role model for our membership department.” We’d like to share your remembrances with Thelma’s family. Please send us your favorite Thelma story to zooiea@wahospitality.org. A memorial service is planned for January 13, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran church at 1515 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia, WA 98502.
