WIN: Pierce County program to deliver trained workforce
A $1.75 million poverty reduction grant has been awarded to the Workforce Development Council in Pierce County. The Washington Hospitality Association Education Foundation is the only employer representative to be written into the grant. First overtime rule public hearings are next week
The western Washington public hearings on the Department of Labor & Industries’ start on Monday, July 15, in Tumwater. Do you have an opinion that you would like on record to the department? Research and development survey on PFAS food packaging alternatives assessment
In 2018, Washington’s Legislature passed a law to prohibit PFAS (polyfluorinated chemicals) in food packaging. Part of the law requires an alternatives assessment, which must consider chemical hazard, performance, cost, availability and exposure. SRC, Inc., a research and development firm, has created a 30-minute survey with open-ended questions to assess the product/market sector for food packaging that results in a scientifically justifiable assessment to meet the goal of the project and the intent of the law.

Member Spotlight: Azteca and Aqua by El Gaucho partner with Union Gospel Mission to feed Seattle’s homeless
The hospitality industry is working hard to better the lives of Seattle’s vulnerable homeless population. In partnership with Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, Azteca Mexican Restaurants and Aqua by El Gaucho provide monthly lunches for hundreds of people at the mission’s kitchen in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood.
