You Voted: What’s the Result?

As of early Thursday, there have been more than two million ballots counted in this year’s Nov. 6th general election and there are still more than 700,000 left to count. According to the Washington Secretary of State, voter turnout is expected to reach 75 percent or more. Currently, Initiative 1634 – Yes! To Affordable Groceries is ahead in the polls, which is a win for our industry! For the most current legislative, statewide and federal election updates, click here.


Seattle Member-Endorsed Prop. 1 Soundly Approved by Voters

Seattle’s Prop. 1, the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise levy, was enthusiastically approved by voters. It passed with almost 70 percent approval. The Seattle Hotel Association and the Seattle Restaurant Alliance both endorsed this levy. You can read the hotel statement here and the restaurant statement here.


Hospitality Convention Launches on Sunday at 6 p.m.

On Sunday Nov. 11, the Hospitality Convention starts with registration and a gala dinner, featuring the Stars of Hospitality Awards at 6 p.m.  The following two days are filled with important breakouts, panel discussions and information regarding the direction of the hospitality industry. From government affairs, to cost saving programs and products, the Hospitality Convention starts this Sunday and it is still not too late to attend. Check out the website and register today!


More Listening Sessions Scheduled on Overtime and Salary Threshold Rules

The Department of Labor and Industries will hold additional listening sessions on a revised version of the overtime and salary threshold employment rules for executive, administrative and professional (EAP) workers. The new, revised rules will be released in the next few weeks and will reflect the initial feedback the department received on the pre-draft rules.
