The Seattle City Council makes decisions that have great impact on your business, such as the minimum wage ordinance that went into effect this year. In 2015, every Seattle city council seat is up for election. Seven out of the nine candidates are required to run in the districts where they live.

The primary election will be held on August 4 and the general election is November 3. After a very extensive and rigorous candidate evaluation process and a vote of the members at the June 3 SRA membership meeting, the Seattle Restaurant Alliance (SRA) – along with the Seattle Hotel Association (SHA) – supports the following 2015 Seattle City Council candidates during the primary:

  • District 1 (West Seattle): Shannon Braddock & Phillip Tavel (District 1 has several candidates. We want to help our top two get through the primary.)
  • District 2 (Southeast Seattle): Bruce Harrell
  • District 3 (Central Seattle & Capitol Hill): Pamela Banks
  • District 4 (University District): Rob Johnson
  • District 5 (North Seattle): This position is on hold until after the primary to continue outreach and educational efforts.
  • District 6 (Ballard; Fremont; Green Lake; Crown Hill): Catherine Weatbrook
  • District 7 (Downtown; Magnolia; Queen Anne): Sally Bagshaw
  • At-Large, Pos. 8: Tim Burgess
  • At-Large, Pos. 9: This position is on hold until after the primary in order to continue outreach and educational efforts.

Together, Seattle restaurants and hotels have formed The Hospitality Political Action Committee (PAC) in order to represent you in these elections. The PAC’s mission is to position Seattle’s hospitality industry as a meaningful participant in Seattle elections and government. The goal is to educate, endorse, and support candidates for Seattle elected positions who come from Seattle’s diverse hospitality sector.

To be a powerful influence in this election, we must join our names, voices and dollars together. We encourage you to contribute $100 to The Hospitality PAC today! If you are able to contribute more than $100, please consider doing so. Click here to contribute. For more information or questions, please contact the WRA’s Morgan Hickel at morganh@warestaurant.org.
