The Edmonds City Council passed a resolution Wednesday night stating its intent to ban single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery provided by the food service industry by 2020.

This marks the beginning of the city’s process to replace single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery with environmentally-friendly alternatives. The intent of the resolution, according to city council documents, is to notify citizens and food service businesses including restaurants, grocery stores and event vendors in Edmonds that by early 2020, an ordinance banning single-use plastic straws/stirrers and plastic cutlery will be established.
