2. Contact the members of the House Government Accountability and Oversight committee and ask them to support HB 1161, and the removal of the 24-liter cap on retail to restaurant sales.

3. Contact the members of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee and ask them to support a bill to remove the 24-liter cap on retail to restaurant sales.

Background:

The Washington Restaurant Association’s top legislative priority this year is to correct the actions by the Liquor Control Board and restore your ability by:

Removing the 24-liter per day transaction on retail-to-restaurant sales

Removing the 17% fee a retailer must pay when selling to restaurants

A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives, HB 1161 to remove both the 24-liter cap and the 17% fee on retail-to-restaurant transactions.

However, some small grocers do not believe they will see business from restaurants and are asking legislators to OPPOSE HB 1161, so they will not see competition from grocers who choose to do business with us. Specifically, they are asking their legislators to oppose removing the 24-liter per day cap.

Directions:

In the House, please call the members of the Government Accountability and Oversight Committee, who will be hearing the bill on Thursday, January 24.

Hello, this is <<Name>> from<<Restaurant>>, I’m calling on an important issue. I would like<<Legislator>> to please support removing the 24-liter per day cap and the 17% fee on sales from retailers to restaurant.

  • Removing the 24-liter per day cap, along with the 17% fee is important so that I have the option to purchase from a grocer.
  • Let me choose the best options for my business, instead of regulating my decision through the Liquor Control Board.
  • Restaurants need as many options as possible to secure a reliable supplier.
  • Please support HB 1161 and removing the 24-liter per day cap!

Thank you!
