Nancy Jewett, Educator for Lewis and Clark High School Management Team
Nancy Jewett is the ProStart educator from Lewis & Clark High School, whose management team took first place in the Sysco 2017 Washington State ProStart Invitational. Each year, students from Lewis & Clark’s GEAR UP program prepare to compete in the Washington State ProStart Invitational.
The GEAR UP, which is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a federally funded program. The objectives of this program are to increase academic performance and preparation for post-secondary education, increase high school graduation and post-secondary participation rates, and increase students’ and their families’ knowledge of post-secondary options, preparation, and finances. The ProStart management track is an excellent example of a program that falls under these educational goals for our state’s students.
The Lewis and Clark students won the Management aspect of the 2017 ProStart Invitational with a restaurant called Vesta’s Mediterranean Grill, an affordable, fresh option for authentic Mediterranean cuisine. They will move on to the National ProStart Invitational in Charleston, SC and compete against other management teams from across the country. Nancy Jewett is working hard with her students to get them ready for this intense competition. She is involving interested students from the Inland Northwest Culinary Academy at Spokane Community College in listening to, and evaluating her team.
Good luck to Nancy Jewett and the Lewis and Clark High School management team at the NRA’s 2017 National ProStart Invitational! We know you’ll be an amazing representative for our state’s ProStart program!
